Privacy Policy

This extension helps you break an English word into its phonics sounds and hear them. It is built to be privacy-preserving: it has no user accounts, shows no ads, and does not track you, profile you, or run any analytics. This policy explains the small amount of data involved.

What the extension does with your data

• Word lookups happen on your device. When you type a word (or select one on a page and use the right-click menu), the extension breaks it into sounds locally using data bundled inside the extension.
• Optional requests to dpway.io. To improve accuracy and to play recorded audio, the extension may contact https://dpway.io for two things: (1) the audio clip for a sound, and (2) the authoritative breakdown of the single word you are looking up, from https://dpway.io/api/phonics/segment. Only that one word is sent. No browsing history, page contents, or personal information is transmitted. If the site is unreachable, the extension still works using its bundled data.
• Settings stored on your device. The extension uses your browser’s local storage to remember your chosen interface language (English, Vietnamese, or Chinese) and to briefly pass a word you selected via the right-click menu to its popup. This data stays on your device and is not sent anywhere.

Server logs

Like any website, the dpway.io server may record standard request information (such as the IP address, timestamp, and the word requested) transiently in its operational logs. This is used only to serve the response and to rate-limit requests so the public endpoint is not abused. It is not used to identify or profile you, and it is not sold or shared.

Third parties

The extension does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. The only outbound link is the optional “Google Translate” button, which opens Google Translate in a new tab with the word you looked up — only if you click it. Once you do, Google’s own privacy policy applies to that page.

Children

This is an educational tool that may be used by or for children. It collects no names, email addresses, or other personal information, and creates no user profiles.

Data we do not collect

• No accounts, names, emails, or contact details.
• No browsing history or the contents of pages you visit.
• No location, device fingerprinting, advertising, or analytics.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new “Last updated” date.
